This is the second Fabergé x 007 egg objet and is inspired by the Fort Knox gold depository safe at the centre of the Goldfinger story. The gold bars inside the egg represent Goldfinger’s passion for gold and are a nod to the film’s title song lyrics, “He loves only gold.” Details. This immaculately crafted, imaginatively conceived creation tells a story of an obsession. 18k gold is melded and sculpted in miniature detail with an entirely new mechanism, exclusively created for James Bond. The egg is embellished with 143 round brilliant cut fancy intense yellow diamonds with a total weight of 2.96ct, while the white gold stand features 16 round brilliant cut white diamonds with a total weight of 0.39ct F-G VS+. The exterior. Meticulously crafted in 18k yellow gold, the curved egg shape is based on a heavily armoured and studded vault, complete with hinged doors and rotating central handle. The front of the egg features a six prong safe combination lock, anchored with 007 at the centre. By rotating this lock anti-clockwise, two bolts move, allowing the safe door to be opened. This style of opening mechanism is a first for Fabergé, and took months of development to perfect. The interior. Upon gaining access to the safe, a stack of gold bars becomes visible, nestled inside and surrounded by 140 brilliant cut yellow diamonds. The stand. The egg is mounted on an 18k white gold stem set with 16 round brilliant-cut white diamonds, which is fixed to a carved black nephrite jadeite base. Dimensions. With four legendary Bond scores already to his credit, composer John Barry reported for duty for the fifth time to provide the musical continuity and introduce a new 007, as George Lazenby would be first to succeed Sean Connery in the iconic role of Bond. The score, like the film, is thrilling and powerful, bursting with action, drama and glamour - and considered by many to be one of Barry's finest works, as demonstrated by this deluxe 2-CD release. The remastered and expanded presentation of Barry's score includes the songs "We Have All The Time In The World," performed by Louis Armstrong and "Do You Know How Christmas Trees Are Grown?" performed by Nina, with lyrics by Hal David.
