The FD3S RX-7 ran from 1991 to 2002 and never made a dull sound in its entire production life. The 13B-REW twin-sequential-turbo Wankel, the low centre of gravity from a front-mid engine layout, and a kerbweight that stayed under 1,300kg made it one of the most balanced sports cars Japan ever produced. Mazda stopped making it not because the market didn't want it, but because emissions regulations made the rotary engine increasingly difficult to certify.
