RC car racing occupies an interesting position in the motorsport world: it's miniaturized, it's accessible, and the technical depth is genuine. Suspension tuning, differential setup, ESC programming, motor timing, tyre selection for different surfaces - all of it applies at 1:10 scale the same way it applies in full-size racing. Serious RC racers maintain their cars with the same attention to detail as full-size racing drivers, rebuild components after hard sessions, and have strong opinions about which setup works best on which track surface. The "spare time" framing is slightly ironic - for serious RC people, it runs on a schedule.
