sHedway is a grassroots health promotion charity for suicide prevention and mental fitness in Australia’s shearing industry. Their motto is "Keep Walking In, Keep Reaching Out." Sarah (founder of 1000 Hearts) met Carol (founder of sHedway) during the Rural Women's Awards process in 2025, when Carol went on to win the National award. In 2026, the sHedway team has proudly partnered with 1000 Hearts to share and celebrate kindness.
$10 from every kit sold is donated to sHedway to support their work.
In the shearing sheds, heart is respected above all. Heart is the grit and strength it takes to Keep Walking In to the sheep pen (or to life) no matter how tough the day is. And sHedway has found that by sharing actual hearts from 1000 Hearts, our tough and strong shearers and shed hands are able to share heart with each other. To not only Keep Walking In, but also to Keep Reaching Out to each other.
This heart-making kit has been made to share heart, kindness and compassion with the shearing shed family of rural Australia. We are sending woollen love back to the home of wool! They will be shared with and by shearers, wool handlers, wool classers, wool growers, shearing contractors and wool brokers, and with their families and supporters. Hearts will be shared when strength, love, hope, courage and comfort are needed, to encourage people to Keep Walking In, Keep Reaching Out.
The kit makes 20 hearts and contains:
- Instructions sheet
- 40 pure wool felt pre-cut hearts in sHedway colours
- pure wool stuffing
- thread
- a needle
- 20 sHedway cards to wrap with your hearts
- 20 biodegradable cellophane bags to wrap hearts
